1-2:45 pm Organic Movements: This workshop is about the quality of movement. Especially when dancing in close embrace, we tend to build up a high level of tension in order to construct a “presence”: we’re cramping our body! This is why we want to remind ourselves of natural concepts of movements and use them as means of communication. This feels more organic and clear. We’ll approach the topic with exercises and integrate the movements in known steps.
3-4:45 pm Elegant Movements – Melina and Detlef’s favorite steps: Combining all the basic elements to fluent and elegant movements, working on the expression of each step. We’ll show a choice of our favorite steps and vary them according to your experience.
5-6:45 pm Tango – The music: The music makes us move. It not only transmits a certain rhythm and velocity, but also emotion and expression. Each tango is a masterpiece, which may be interpreted in a unique kind of way. We do not attach different steps to different orchestras – we examine the dimensions of music and dance. Furthermore, we distinguish and present different styles of music and adapt our movements to the different requirements. We will touch upon: (i) dimensions of music and dance, (ii) rhythm – early tangos and rhythmic –dynamic tangos of the “Epoca de oro”, (iii) elegance – slow and solemn tangos of the golden age, (iv) romance – lyrical tangos of the golden age; (v) drama – dramatic and expressive tango of the golden age and later periods.
